Legal

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA)- CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to watch over and advocate for abused and neglected children, to make sure they don’t get lost in the overburdened legal and social service system or languish in an inappropriate group or foster home.  They stay with each case until it is closed, and the child is placed in a safe, permanent home. For many abused children, their CASA volunteer will be the one constant adult presence—the one adult who cares only for them.

First Light Child Advocacy Center- First Light is a place where people, children, and caring come together. The center provides a location for members of a multi-disciplinary team to come together and perform a forensic interview of a child who is alleged to be a victim of abuse or neglect. The objective is to provide a quick, professional response by law enforcement, child protection services and the prosecutor's office to a case, so the trauma to the child can be minimized and an appropriate course of action to the specific case can be charted expeditiously. Since first opened its doors, February 16, 2004 the center has served well over 1200 children.  First Light has regionalized our services and now also serve Wabash, Blackford and Miami county children.

Pro Bono Legal Services- The Grant County Bar Association and District 6 Access to Justice, Inc. recognize that our system of justice is founded on the principle that all persons should be treated fairly and equally.  Yet they also recognize that not all Grant County citizens have the financial means for legal representation.  For these reasons, they have established a Pro Bono Project.  For more information, please follow the link to the Indiana Pro Bono Commission for District Six by clicking here.
