Clinical Services

General Counseling-  services are provided for family, marital, abuse and neglect victims, children and adults.  Therapy styles include individual, group, and play therapy for young children.  Therapy services through general counseling are typically paid through self-pay (on a sliding fee scale), private insurance, or Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs).

Sexually Abusive Youth (SAY) -  is a specialized therapy and case management program which works with children who have committed a sexual offense.  The program also works with the family members of that child.  The program consists of individual, family, and group therapy as well as home-based case management.  All individuals involved in the program are referred through the Department of Child Services (DCS) and Grant County Juvenile Probation.

Family Preservation -  is home-based counseling and case management services referred through DCS and Grant County Juvenile Probation.  The program also provides an anger management group (Aggression Replacement Training) and a parenting class (Developing Capable Young People).

In-School Therapy  was started in Fall 2007 in Head Start through grade 12 to provide counseling for students having trouble with anger control, behavior problems, depression, as well as adjusting to new situations.  Students are referred to this program through the individual school.

Domestic & Sexual Violence/Homelessness

Hands of Hope - provides intervention and prevention services focusing on domestic violence, sexual violence and homelessness.  Prevention education focuses on healthy relationships and sexual and domestic violence awareness and is offered to all age levels in Grant County public and private schools and select grades in Wabash County.

The Flannery-Keal Shelter - provides a temporary safe home for adults and children escaping domestic violence or facing homelessness.  Comprehensive services, including case management and linkages to mainstream programs are provided for both adults and children at the shelter.

Family Support Services

    Healthy Families- A voluntary program based on the premise that parenting is the toughest job there is and all parents             need support.  A Family Support Specialist will provide information, referrals, and support to assist expecting or new             parents in caring for their children.  Visits are in the home and a variety of services may be offered such as: Home                 Visits, Cradle School, or assessment and referral services.  Available to all expecting and new parents with children             age birth to 3 years.

Cradle School-Cradle School is a weekly program for parents and their children (birth to 5 years), which includes games, crafts, snacks, field trips, and a time for parents to meet together for discussion and support.  This program is meant to help parents have fun with their children while helping them learn.  Participation is voluntary and free of charge.

    Baby & Me- The goal of this program is to help prevent parent overwhelm and to provide mothers 25 years &                under with supportive resources needed to give their child the best care possible.

    Family FoundationsThis program is a parent and family education program which uses the Nurturing                             Program to teach vital skills to become an excellent parent.  Any parent is welcome to attend, there is a fee if you are         not referred.

Relatives As Parents Program (RAPP)- is a unique program that provides support and counseling for people who are raising children other than their own.  Monthly meetings provide a relaxed, educational forum for information sharing and support.  Counseling is available for adults and children requesting individual assistance.

    40 Developmental Assets -   "The Developmental Assets are 40 common sense, positive experiences and             qualities that help influence choices young people make and help them become caring, responsible, successful adults.        Because of its basis in youth development, resiliency, and prevention research and its proven effectiveness, the                 Developmental Assets framework has become one of the most widely used approach to positive youth development in     the United States."  (Search Institute, 2012)

Educational Programs
         Provided to individuals, groups, and families.  Strategies and behavior management techniques are provided on             topics relevant in everyday living.

    Pearl Bassett Education Series - Information coming soon.

    Homeless Education Program
- A partnership with Marion Community Schools and federally funded.                      Supports educational success for students experienceing homelessness.

Project RESPECT- is a school-based educational program for middle school and high school students in Grant County that provides abstinence education from trained instructors who go into classrooms to present the information.

Project Growth- is a two-hour court ordered seminar for families, with children ages 6-17, going through divorce.  The class discusses effects of divorce on children and what parents can do to make the transition easier for the children.  Focus includes communication and controlling anger through verbal expression of feelings.  There is also a group for children.

    Safe Sleep- is a program that teaches families about the importance of creating a safe sleeping environment for their             infant. Program may be completed individually or in a group.  Qualifying families will receive a crib, fitted sheet, sleep         sack, and pacifier upon completion.  Inservice training for child care providers, church nurseries, or other businesses         which may benefit from this information is available as well.  This program is is funded through Community Partners             for Child Safety and is in partnership with First Candle's National Crib Campaign.

Community Outreach

    Marion Community Gardens Association- Family Service Society was involved in the initial planning and                         management stages of the Community Gardens at 7th & Boots Street in Marion, partnering with Marion Public                 Library and others to see the garden in that neighborhood flourish.  As community gardening has grown in Marion,             Family Service Society remains involved to help see neighborhoods within Marion build a stronger sense of                         community and pride.  This endeavor is an extension of our mission to encourage, educate, and empower individuals,         families, and communities.
